Found A Lost Pet – St. Francis Is Here to Help You Save Them!

SFAS has housing for over 400 pets (cats and dogs) but we seem to never have enough for all the lost pets in our communities.  Yet each year, we rescue nearly 350 pets!  Rescuing this many animals is successful because of the individual participation and commitment to save as many lives as possible.

First Steps:

·         Check for Tags.  Even a rabies tag can be traced.  Just contact the rabies tag phone #.

·         Take the animal to a vet hospital to have it scanned for a microchip (tags can get lost, but microchips are fool-proof in finding the owner).  Vets do not charge to check for micro-chip.

·         NO Micro-chip:  Take a picture up close of the head and insert into a flyer …. Distribute them throughout the community and the vet offices (sometimes you can email them).  Many times the owner can be found as they are looking also.  We have reunited hundreds of desperately seeking pet owners with their pets through this effort.

·         Find a Foster:  because of housing, it may take 6 to 8 weeks before SFAS can take in an animal if our housing is at full capacity.  Many times, you or an animal-loving friend can foster the animal until we have space or the parents are found.

o   Email the Flyer to www.stfrancisanimalsanctuary.org with your contact info.

o   SFAS will post the flyer online so that Parents Seeking their Pets can see if we have contact with their pet.

o   Our Administrative Director will contact you with all the options that are available.  Our Foster Program is highly successful and most pets find homes through us with 6 to 8 weeks.

o   A plan will be determined based off of specific factors.

o   Never Give Up Hope … You are Saving a Life …. Isn’t it worth the little headache at the end of the path when a family is reunited or an adoptive family is found for the Life You Saved!

·         Keep in touch with SFAS as to your progress and any behavioral problems you are having …. We often have solutions if we know there is a problem.

Can’t Foster or Find An Animal Lover to Foster?

·         Email susan@stfrancisanimalsanctuary.com to check on housing availability.

·         Contact the other rescues in our area …. Somebody just might have a space … you never can tell.  Daily it changes for most rescues.  A List of Area Rescues is posted on our website.

Flyer Information: Where Pet was found, Pet Description, Picture of Pet’s Face, your contact information.

Remember post widely as animals can travel great distances from home.  Don’t forget the Vet offices for posting.
