A haven for unwanted animals in Southeast Mississippi

A St. Francis Animal Sanctuary's (SFAS) Cat Rescue Story
Delilah's (a.k.a. "Bumper") Story
In
late October of 2007, a gray tabby was hit by a car on a busy street and
left there to die. She was still unconscious when SFAS found her.
Realizing we had little time to save her, we rushed her to our
veterinarian where we learned that her jaw had been severely broken and
would need to be wired closed.
After her surgery, we brought her back to St. Francis Animal Sanctuary
(SFAS) to recover while we attempted to locate her owner. We posted many
fliers about this grey cat, but had no response. It seemed as though
"Bumper", as we had named her, was officially a SFAS cat.
Over the next seven months, Bumper recovered nicely and became a loving
member of our SFAS family. However, we decided to take her, along with
seven other cats, to Massachusetts where we had made arrangements to
find permanent, loving homes. We took Bumper and the other cats back to
our veterinarian to make sure they all had a clean bill of health and
were ready to be transported.
However, while Bumper was getting her check-up, SFAS received a phone
call from Elizabeth O’Connell. She had recently found one of our fliers,
old and faded by that point, but after seeing the flier, she began
thinking that our "Bumper” might have actually been her little Delilah.
Right around the time of Bumper’s accident, Elizabeth’s cat, Delilah,
had gone missing. After searching for her lost cat, Elizabeth found out
that her neighbors had been trapping and euthanizing cats and that
Delilah may have been one of them. Elizabeth was devastated, but when
she came across our flier, she began thinking that Delilah was still
alive and at SFAS.
Elizabeth called SFAS and within just a few minutes, over the phone, we were able to conclude that "Bumper" was indeed Delilah. Elizabeth and Delilah were reunited that very weekend. The SFAS staff couldn't be happier to have such a wonderful turn of events! We wish Delilah and her family the best of luck!
